This novel seems to have some kinda resemblance with
"Enchanters of Florance " by Salman Rushdie and "Sea of poppies" by Amitav Ghosh

This novel is with a difference. The presentation of research work done is worth mentioning.

The titbits for the male readers may be a marketing technique. Please define the boarder line corectly.

Dear TD,

Dear TD,
The novel is very much interesting. The way you keep on mentioning Hypatia seemed to be much feministic. But the recent discussion about 'being professional' became a bit anti-woman. It had an oppsite notion of the idea that the novel was delivering until now. I mean the teasing type of talk was easily accepted by the woman researcher character was unexpected. Its true the men characters could be speaking like that only in such topics, but the women characters also went down to that status of 'concepts'. The response of women could have been more of holding self-esteem on their life-style, as the novel was praising the character of Hypatia. This part made them just follow the way of talking in which the women are just objectified.regards, Maya S.

Highly readable novel. Even readability being rare in Malayalam these days that way the novel stands out. Language is good and literary. Almost look like a Davinci Code thriller. If read in that spirit the novel is good. But cannot recommend it from a literary point of view.

My TDR,

I read the book at a stretch and completed the book today morning i.e,within 3 days of its buying. Some time I used to read the book till 1:00 am -1:30 am night

The novel thrilled me throughout my reading as I did not read any books like this based on mathematical histories.

Congratulations for this creative work!!!!!!!

I liked the novel. However, there are some flaws towards the ending, which I would like to see corrected in a new edition. How can I get in touch with the author in person?

FlameWolf said...

And yes - some parts tend to become overtly textbook-style descriptions. Like the pages from Porinchu's book, and many of the imaginary historical events. There are many things that I like about the novel, and a few that I don't.

Dear Mr. T D Radhakrishnan,
I am presently reading 'Francis Itty Cora'. Your book is good. It is different from a lot of other malayalam books. But sometimes the narrative becomes a little trying on the reader because of its documentary style. But you certainly made me sit up with the Anthropophagy. ( I am just half way through) The story is a really interesting read. But sometimes there is too much of information in the book which makes you doubt whether the author's intention is to tell a good story or to impress upon the reader, the quantum of his research. Mr. Radhakrishnan, you certainly have done an excellent work. But somewhere you got impatient and sent your work to print before trimming/polishing/ cutting your rough diamond.

The women's trio also departs (or may be that's what I feel) from normal working women of kerala. The trio's escapades also appear a little far-fetched and forced. It doesn't fit the Society you have placed them in. Some other more liberal city or upbringing may have had possibilities. But not the one you have placed them in. Well, I am being too critical. You certainly deserve better.

Of course, there is no point in fingering only the minuses. The pluses are also plenty. The history of the 18 families was fascinating.

Well researched work. And a very unique narrative style. Somehow the story reminded me of Umberto Eco's works.

yes, its similar to Focault's Pendulum !

Just finished reading it. The novel breaks new ground in form and content.

I would say its a heady mix of:

-Kunnamkulam christianity
-Sexuality
-Mathematics
-Internet
-Feminism
-Global national cultures

BTW, what does the ending (Swahili) sentence of the novel mean? The novelist deliberately did not give translation for it.
The sentence is :
"Ccollanan Pachacamac ricuy auccacunac yahuamly hichas cancufa"
